Scrumptious Treats for School Parties

Valentine's Day and other holiday parties at your child's school mean only one thing: lots of food! But don't panic. There are plenty of options out there—from raw veggies to heart-shaped cupcakes and everything in between.

Due to increasing concerns about childhood obesity, a number of schools prohibit sugary foods on any occasion. If this is the case, or you're merely trying to teach your child healthy eating habits, consider a fruit and vegetable tray for the classroom holiday party. Make them more tempting for the children by including delicious fruit and veggie dips.

If your child's school allows sweets, let the specific holiday be your guide. Get creative with cookie cutters, food coloring and other tools to create fun treats such as heart-shaped cupcakes with red icing for Valentine's Day, shamrock-shaped cookies with green icing for St. Patrick's Day or spiders made from popcorn balls and black food coloring for Halloween.
